The Fox & Hounds Restaurant Will Close After Serving
Metropolitan Detroit For Nearly Eight Decades
Bloomfield Hills , Mich. , July 10, 2007 – The Fox & Hounds restaurant, located at 39560 Woodward Avenue , has announced it will close on August 31, 2007, after serving metropolitan Detroit for nearly eight decades. The elegant, old-English style restaurant is being sold to a Bloomfield Hills-based Developer. The Fox & Hounds first opened in 1928 with class and dignity and will operate the same until the day of closing. The announcement was made by Fox & Hounds Restaurant owners, Kevin and Jackie Downey.
The award-winning Fox & Hounds has been a landmark, fine dining establishment known for its quality cuisine, extraordinary service, and unparalleled ambiance since it opened to the public in 1928. Home of the Pastry Den which is known for it's splendid cakes and desserts, the restaurant has a team of loyal employees with an average tenure of 12 years, with some staff serving the restaurant for over 30 years. Recognized for its continuous commitment to serving the community, there have been countless momentous occasions held at the Fox & Hounds. The restaurant has been the host of special occasions including weddings, performances by the Michigan Opera Theater, musical shows by some of metro Detroit 's most-noted bands, and premier events during the Woodward Dream Cruise. Among the locals and restaurant regulars, many actors, political leaders, and musicians have made Fox & Hounds their favorite fine-dining and entertainment destination in the Detroit metropolitan area.
Kevin Downey has been associated with Fox & Hounds since 1975. Kevin and his wife Jackie purchased the restaurant in 1979 and the building in 1983. They led the restaurant through a major fire reconstruction in 1997. Under their tenure, the longest of any ownership, the Fox & Hounds, has maintained a reputation of the highest quality dinning experience. The Fox & hounds through the years has served the Bloomfield Hills Community as well as numerous charities, Lighthouse of Oakland County, MIRA, Children's Hospital and St Hugo of the Hills among a few. Kevin and Jackie have many fond memories of Fox & Hounds including their and their daughters wedding receptions. They have consistently been involved in the restaurant's management and day to day operation. Jackie has operated the Pastry Den since 1984.
